HOW TO VIEW THE FIRST EDITION OF THE ENCYCLOPÉDIE

The University of Chicago's ARTFL (American and French Research on the Treasury of the French Language) Encyclopédie, complete with text and images of pages. Searchable through many advanced functions. Highlighting a word and pressing 'd' automatically searches the word in an 18th century context. Website is in English, Encyclopédie in original French.

 

The French website ENCCRE (Édition Numérique Collaborative et CRitique de l'Encyclopédie), containing text and scans of pages side by side. Also searchable with advanced functions. Website and Encyclopédie are in French.

 

The University of Michigan's Collaborative Translation Project is an ongoing effort to translate the entire Encyclopédie into English. Searchable though various criteria. Site and Encyclopédie in English.

Many colleges and universities around the world house full or partial sets of the text and plates. Also, scholars throughout the world have created compilations of articles and plates which allows for the Encyclopédie to be accessible at home without need for the internet.
